About the IR Ramen Spectroscopic Laser
ABOUT THE: Advanced IR Laser Spectrograph This is an Advanced Infrared Laser Spectroscopic System. Invented by David Walley and engineered for artifact analysis, this system provides a non-destructive test on the target artifact. It works on tools, flakes, points and all types of stone, including, but not limited to: Chert, Quartz, Quartzite, Mozarkite, KRFlint, Obsidian, Upper Mercer, Basalt, Hard stone, etc. and all types of Pottery. This system can Unmistakably see the difference between modern points and ancient relics. It is accurate on Excavated Sites, River, Stream or Surface finds.
How The Infrared Laser Raman System Works, Condensed Version.
The Infrared Laser System is a combination of two separate and different disciplines. They are the Raman Florescent Curve System, which is activated by the Infrared Laser. We are using a Laser for activation of luminescent light for the graph instead of the conventional method.
This gives us a double option on the graphs produced from tests. We obtain readings on the actual make up of the Lithic material through the Raman side of the graph. Every type of lithic material has it' own special signature finger print on the graph, so in most cases we can also identify the Lithic material.
Everything in the Universe, including Earth, are subject to radio active exposure, and atomic decay.
We are able to obtain readings on the Laser side of the graph, which measures the amount of trapped atomic decayed Neutrons in Lattice defect traps in the stone, 1mm sub surface. Please note we do not measure Patina,---ever. The Computer is programmed to go even deeper than 1mm, if patina or chemicals still exists at deeper levels. When the laser encounters no more patina it is programmed from that point to go 1mm deep for the reading, and to minus out all the patina it has passed through. The Laser side of the graph allows the operator to draw conclusions about the age of the tested artifact. As an example on an authentic reworked point, after careful testing of many areas, some times several different levels of age can be determined. In the center of the point for example, a high reading, or original age can usually be obtained, but the edges show no age, so are modern, and the base shows lesser age than the original age, meaning anciently resharpened.
Modern reproductions have no chance either as none will demonstrate any age. Example: lets say you are testing a paleo age core, you get high Paleo readings of 72,250, the highest the graph can obtain. A spall is struck from the core. One side of the flake will still retain its original face with its trapped Neutrons, and will show high Paleo numbers. But the other face will give it away, because it is a new face. The reason: The computer is programmed to test only after no Patina or chemicals are encountered. In the flaking process most countable Neutrons and Patina, are liberated from the face of the new knapped flake, the Atomic Clock is stopped and the computer does not encounter any patina, so it immediately starts measuring at the surface for 1mm. into the sub surface. Result: Low numbers in the 2,000 to 3, 000 range, indicating no age, modern. The same thing happens with modern heat treated tests. The heat treating liberates the countable Neutrons, and the Atomic Clock is stopped. Result: Low readings, meaning No age, the same as a modern reproductions.
I would also like to clear up a popular misconception that is believed by many to be true. When age is mentioned from a test, Specific Age, in years Before the Present, or BP, is not being indicated. Rather we are indicating numbers from the graph, which have no calibration to Specific Age BP. This Laser System, as good as it is, can't, (repeat) can not Identify specific Age of a point. It only allows conclusions to be be drawn by the operator from the tests. Example: If very high readings are obtained on tests of a purported Clovis point, and the graph goes up and then makes a hard straight left turn to the 72,250 mark on the graph, it has obtained the highest level possible for my Graph. This indicates Paleo Age. Then after more careful testing around the edges, tip and base and no ther signs of modern tampering is found, the operator then knows it is definitely of Paleo Age, and is authentic and without modern tampering. Because the test object is a Clovis, then an acceptable age range would be 11,500 BP-10,600 BP. These ages were obtained from actual Carbon 14 tests of Archeologist excavated sites, and are the best age information we have at present.
On Fossils--every type of fossil bone or teeth are highly radioactive, and if authentic, go clear off the graph at 72,250. This includes dinosaur bones and teeth and Fossil Shark teeth such as Megalodon, etc. All are extremely radio active. When a low graph reading is obtained from a purported fossil, of any kind, it is a reproduction.
